Yes,I am the geek that is excited about spreadsheets. Seriously,deleriously excited about spreadsheets. I love it when all the numbers line up perfectly and I love automatically generated reports and graphs and charts that magically reflect the ever-changing data that is my income. In 2009,I worried that the time I spent CREATING the spreadsheet was a wasteful indulgence in my passion for perfect columns and rows,but I never regretted it. I found it a hundred times easier to increase my income when I was actually tracking it. I found that times when I felt like I was doing great were times when I was just holding steady or even declining. My "feeling" of productivity rarely matches my increase in income. It was never my goal to "be productive," it has always been my goal to make money. It's possible to produce a lot of things that don't actually generate income,so "feeling busy" isn't really a good indicator of true success. For the past few years,I have loved sharing my spreadsheet with freelance bloggers and writers. The silly spreadsheet-obsession I have can definitely benefit others,including YOU. I've done all of the programming,so all you need to do is enter the money you're earning each day in the column that coincides with the company you're writing for. The spreadsheet generates profit and loss statements,tells you what you daily average income is every month and shows you which income streams are contributing the most income. If you're new to the business,there's a page that lists a bunch of websites that I write for,along with my review of the company and some hot tips for making more money there. In addition to tracking your income,you can track your expenses. The Spreadsheet categorizes my expenses according to the same categories the IRS asks about at tax time,so the numbers are handy and already itemized. Anyway.. check it out. You will not regret it!
