In the past, when my husband’s income was our family’s only resource,I’d feel bad about expensive luxuries or frivolous expenses. This time,it was different. We took the ferry to Friday harbor on San Juan island and walked around downtown, meandering in and out of the little boutique shops in historic Friday Harbor.

the sky is the limit when you work online
We drove around the island to Roche Harbor,an upscale yacht landing where we spent…brace yourself…. $60 for 2 hamburgers,1 order of chicken strips,a BLT,2 cokes and 2 coffees. Now I know as well as anyone that paying too much for things will NOT make me a millionaire. But I also know that I can make that much money in the car on the way home. It’s nice to know that I can DECIDE to splurge on something stupid and still not affect the fact that our bills are paid. It feels good to be able to treat the kids. They had no idea that their lunch was more expensive than our weekly grocery bill. (OK- that was an exaggeration) All they know is that they got to play on the pier, check out the anemones, clams, crabs and mussels, watch the boats sailing in and out of the harbor, smell the flowers and look at the beautiful gardens and just have fun. For me,it was empowering to relax, knowing that I am the one in control of my income- and that every month I’m closer and closer to my goals. I’m back to work now, with more fire in my keyboard. This is why I do this:)

The long version of this story is that I tend to fall in love with foreign landscapes and fantasize about living there. I realized,as we were staring off into the sun as it set over the Pacific Ocean, sinking down behind Victoria,BC,that we can live there. Working online gives me the freedom to live anywhere I want. Yes,there is high speed wireless internet access on all of the San Juan Islands.

My mom recently moved to Sequim,Washington. It is sunny there around 300 to 330 days a year, but not hot sunny, more like perfect sunny! I love it there and my grandpa has is yaght in John Wayne Marina. They are also one of the largest producers of lavender in the United States,if not the world! Plus Port Angeles is only about 15 minutes away! We were there one week before they were filming some of New Moon,Jessica was sad she missed out on seeing Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black from Twilight). It would have been amazing but the kids had stupid school! There is also a noteworthy place called Salt Creek which is 26 or 36 miles across the Strait Of Juan de Fuca from Victoria B.C. Anyway thought I would share.
